Ruger 250th Anniversary
Super Wrangler
A Rimfire Winner
If you’ve followed me for very long, you know I have a soft spot for .22 revolvers — especially Ruger .22 revolvers. So when Ruger introduced its 250th Anniversary Super Wrangler, I knew I had to spend some time with it. The limited edition model features a special “Made in the 250th Year of American Liberty” engraving on the barrel to commemorate America’s 250th Anniversary.
Being a Super Wrangler, it comes with adjustable sights and both .22 LR and .22 Magnum cylinders. For this trip to the range, I loaded up the Magnum cylinder, which adds a little more authority while still being a pleasure to shoot. The revolver features a 4.5-inch cold hammer-forged steel barrel, and in my experience, that precision manufacturing really shows in the accuracy.
Unlike the standard Wrangler, the Super Wrangler has a steel frame, allowing it to handle the .22 Magnum cartridge with ease. Mine wears Ruger’s dark bronze Cerakote finish, includes the company’s transfer bar safety system and tips the scales at a comfortable 32 ounces. The factory grips are perfectly serviceable, although I’d probably dress it up with a nicer set if it were mine.
With an MSRP of $339, it’s hard not to appreciate the value. You’re getting a six-shot single-action revolver, two interchangeable cylinders, adjustable sights and the quality Ruger is known for — all at a price that’s tough to beat.
After sending six rounds downrange at 15 yards, the Super Wrangler proved exactly what I expected: reliable, accurate and a whole lot of fun. The .22 Magnum definitely has a little more punch than the Long Rifle, but both make this revolver a joy to shoot.
If you’re looking for an affordable rimfire sixgun with plenty of versatility, the Ruger 250th Anniversary Super Wrangler deserves a spot on your shortlist.
