While he won’t admit it himself, retired FBI Agent Ed Mireles is widely considered the hero of the infamous 1986 FBI Miami shootout that left FBI agents Ben Grogan and Jerry Dove dead at the hands of two bank robbers. The incident was a major turning point in the law enforcement community and lead to significant changes in training, tactics, ballistics and duty weapons for police across the country.

Host Brent T. Wheat spoke with Ed about his actions during the shootout, including how he persevered in the face of multiple injuries and the deaths of the friends. Ed also offers insight into how the firefight changed law enforcement and how he has personally moved on following that haunting day.
