I’m a sucker for flashlights. Living out in the country, I’m always checking on the chickens, walking the property or poking around the shop after dark. I’ve tried headlamps, hats with built-in lights — you name it. They all work… until you forget to charge them or leave them sitting on the workbench.
Then Streamlight sent me something called the SideSaddle, and I’ve been wearing it for months.
It’s designed to mount on a bump cap — a lightweight hard hat mechanics and other tradespeople wear — but I clipped it onto one of my favorite ball caps instead. The mounting system sandwiches the brim securely, and the light adjusts to the angle you need.
What I really appreciate is its simplicity. Press the button once, it’s on. Press it again, it’s brighter. Press it once more, it’s off. That’s it. No complicated menus, no unnecessary gimmicks. It doesn’t connect to my phone, remind me to take out the trash or walk the dog — it just gives me light when I need it.
On high, it pumps out 400 lumens, runs for several hours depending on the setting and feels tough enough to survive just about anything I’d throw at it. Around my place, that’s a requirement.
If you’re looking for a hands-free lighting solution for working in the garage, around the farm or anywhere else after dark, the Streamlight SideSaddle is worth a look. It’s one of those simple ideas that turns out to be surprisingly useful.
