Ruger LCP MAX w/ ReadyDot

Ruger is one of my favorite gun companies, and the reason for that is that they do unexpected things, like their new LCP MAX ReadyDot. Built on the already-popular LCP MAX platform, the LCP MAX ReadyDot is an ultra-compact .380 that adds something you don’t usually see on a true pocket gun: a battery-free fiber-optic red dot.

The ReadyDot uses a large 15 MOA aiming dot, bright enough to pick up instantly — even for aging eyes — and it co-witnesses with the front tritium sight for fast, intuitive alignment. Despite the added capability, the pistol keeps the dimensions that make the LCP MAX so easy to carry: 3/4″ wide, 5.17″ long, and only 11 ounces. Ruger even includes a quality pocket holster.

Capacity is 10+1 or 12+1, depending on which magazine you choose, and the pistol features Ruger’s Secure Action system — a light, safe, hammer-fired setup — plus a reversible mag release and smooth “melted” edges for comfort.

On the range, the ReadyDot proves itself quickly. In the video, Roy prints a roughly 3.5–4″ group at 10 yards on his very first outing with the pistol — using the dot exclusively. It’s fast, visible and surprisingly practical on a gun this small.

If you’re a pocket-carry fan looking for modern sighting capability without batteries or bulk, the LCP MAX ReadyDot might be the most unexpected and useful upgrade Ruger has rolled out in years.

MSRP: $449
