Crimson Trace LG-350G Lasergrips

Smith & Wesson’s ubiquitous J-Frame proves at least one thing: It’s difficult to improve on a design around for decades. Except, in a firearms industry rife with innovation, companies like Crimson Trace do exactly that—make something almost perfect even better. CT’s LG-350G LaserGrips replace the Smith’s classic rubber boot stocks (which are great, mind you) with a slightly larger, 1-piece unit housing a laser aiming system.

Before you even notice the laser, you’ll be impressed with the stocks themselves. They’re made from two different types of plastic—one for grip-ability and comfort, the other for structure and stability. The frontstrap includes fingergrooves; the backstrap features a recoil-absorbing space (Crimson Trace’s ShockStop system) behind and below the hammer to make shooting the J-Frame more enjoyable through less-felt recoil and greater control. Tucked in the uppermost frontstrap fingergroove is a built-in activation pad. Once you grasp the stocks, the laser turns on, emitting the top of the right side of the stocks. It’s all automatic—no extra switch or extra step. Why? Some people figure if a gun has to be drawn, there’s a reason, so let’s have the laser aiming system activated as well.

Installing the LaserGrips requires installing 4 lithium batteries, removing the current stocks, and installing the LaserGrips by wrapping it around the J-frame butt and tightening two screws. The LaserGrips are always ready to be activated, unless you choose to totally power them down with the small switch at the bottom of the stocks. You’ll get about 2 hours of laser-on time and the laser is adjustable for windage and elevation with a small, included, Allen wrench. The green laser is bright and very easy to see, even in some daylight conditions. These Crimson Trace LaserGrips retail for $399.
