Turning a .410 Shotgun
Into a .32 H&R Double Rifle

Every good project starts with a simple idea — and sometimes a little curiosity. In this case, the plan is to take a humble Stoeger .410 side-by-side shotgun and turn it into something far more interesting: a .32 H&R Magnum double rifle.

The foundation is solid. Stoeger’s .410 side-by-side is an affordable, durable platform — perfect for a custom build. Instead of a full re-barrel (and the cost that comes with it), this project uses rifled barrel inserts from Chaszel. These drop-in units fit the shotgun’s chambers and contain their own rifled bore, effectively converting the gun into a rifle.

Installation is as simple as it gets. Slide the inserts into each barrel, load your cartridges and close the action — now you’ve got a two-shot rifle. Extraction works through the gun’s existing system, and the inserts can be removed just as easily. Early testing shows they shoot surprisingly well, with the ability to regulate point of impact between barrels for better accuracy.

The rest of the build is where things get fun. Plans include express-style sights, subtle stock reshaping and classic safari-style sling swivels — all aimed at giving the finished gun a proper double rifle look and feel.

Even better, these inserts aren’t limited to .32 H&R. They’re available in a wide range of calibers — from .38 and .357 up to .45 Colt and even .45-70 for larger actions — opening the door to all kinds of creative builds.

It’s a clever way to turn a simple shotgun into something unique, functional and undeniably cool. Stay tuned — this one’s just getting started.
