You know those exercise programs that ask you to take a mirror selfie so you can see your progress after 30, 60, or 90 days of working out? Thankfully, this isn’t one of those programs. I have, however, been using this ProHands Tactical hand strengthener (retail $44.95) for a couple months, ever since reviewing it on American Handgunner online.

While I don’t have any pictures of my hands or forearms to show my progress, I can say regularly using a hand-strengthening device like this truly increases hand strength and stamina—and results in a positive effect on my shooting. ProHands Tactical offers hand strengtheners with various levels of tension (the one you see here is a “medium”) as well as individual finger pads and springs allowing your fingers their own workout.

The key feature of this device is the laser pointer mounted on the top. Point it at an object on a wall, squeeze the finger pads, and try to keep the laser affixed to the your point of aim. Now do a similar exercise with just your trigger finger. The laser shows you how much your grip affects your aim or, rather, the laser shows you how to fine-tune your grip in order to maintain accuracy. Your hands will get stronger, yes, but in doing so you’ll help improve your stability when pulling a trigger and, in turn, improve your shooting ability. Be sure to work both strong and weak hand.

To see the full potential, check out the ProHands Tactical exercise regimen on their website. They’ve got 11 different exercises you can use with this device—each worthy of a selfie if you’re inclined to track your trigger strength progress in photos.
