Custom Rippin’ Razors
Replaceable blade technology has exploded in recent years and lately, one knifemaker with a dynamic approach caught my eye. Logan Thompson of Virginia Beach, Va. is the creative behind Teale Designs. Five years ago, he began putting his background in manufacturing and engineering to good use. He started by making EDC pry bars and rapidly expanded to tool sets and utility knives, including the cool XL Utility Knife folding knives you see here.
The XL Utility Knife is a handmade custom, 7 ⅜” overall and 4 11/16″ closed. Thompson hand-machines, assembles and finishes each knife. The pivot hardware with standard utility knife blade (¾” tall by 2 7/16″ wide) is 2 ⅜” wide. The pivot is secured by a SNECX Tan Superlock located on the rear handle spine. On the rear frame you’ll find a tip-up pocket clip that’s reversible to the front for southpaws. Logan offers standard models with different metals, handle scales, and finishes — but since each is handmade, no two are exactly alike.
He has different “looks” in his line ranging from basic metal surface treatments, hi-tech anodizing, custom handle scales and weathered surfaces. In addition to his standard models, Logan can custom finish one to your request. The knifemaker posts his line on the Teale Designs’ Etsy site. Be sure to check out his fixed-blades as well.
Why You’ll Like It
Half the fun is choosing from Teale Designs’ inventory or having one custom made. The other half is getting one in your hands. The XL Utility Knife is extremely well made but Logan keeps them affordable by not loading them up with expensive components. Prices range from $225–$275, well worth the money for such handmade, blue collar splendor!
