The SilencerCo Velos LBP
Sound Suppressor

The Can Your Direct-Gas AR Was Born To Run

The SilencerCo Velos LBP sound suppressor perfectly complements the classic direct gas impingement AR-15.
When used in concert with the Gas-Defeating Charging Handle, the combination minimizes toxic gases and fumes blown into your face while firing.

The SilencerCo Velos LBP (Low Back Pressure) sound suppressor is designed for a singular purpose. Gene Stoner’s direct gas impingement AR-15 is the most popular long gun in the country. Simple, accurate, reliable and fun, the AR can be had at a variety of price points with a variety of user-friendly features. That makes the AR-15 a prime candidate for a sound suppressor. The rub is that adding a sound suppressor increases the back pressure forced into the rifle’s action.

The direct-gas impingement operating system of the AR-15 is indeed a model of simplicity. Consisting of little more than a length of stainless-steel hydraulic tubing that taps high-pressure gas off of the barrel and directs it back into the action, there is very little to break. The bolt carrier assembly acts like a piston to cycle the action. The downside is that increasing back pressure directs more gas back into the face of the firer. That can be a pretty big deal.

If you are a Delta Force operator shooting and scooting his way through an enemy-held structure, you will likely never notice. However, for the rest of us who spend most of our time shooting from a fixed point at a range, this effect can be both annoying and potentially dangerous. When used in conjunction with the SilencerCo Gas-Defeating Charging Handle, the Velos LBP (Low Back Pressure) sound suppressor is specifically designed to help you stop passing gas.

SilencerCo Velos LBP sound suppressor is packed with Information Age tech. Built from stainless steel and Inconel,
it’s both effective and indestructible.

So, What’s the Big Deal?

Your body is the most extraordinary contrivance in the known universe. The human brain weighs three pounds and is mostly fat. Seventy-five percent of it is actually just water. The brain’s 86 billion neurons form roughly one quadrillion connections. By skillfully linking this amazing central processing unit to a standard set of human fingers, we can send robots to Mars.

The human heart weighs about three-quarters of a pound and beats around 100,000 times per day. Over the course of 24 hours, this most extraordinary pump will push 2,000 gallons of blood through 60,000 miles’ worth of blood vessels. However, none of that works without oxygen, and lots of it. You have to have healthy lungs to keep everything else running.

This is patently obvious, but we need to breathe air to live. Sucking toxic garbage down into our lungs results in such vile stuff as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema) and pulmonary fibrosis. Cigarettes are the biggest culprits, killing some 478,000 Americans per annum. Repetitive inhalation of gun smoke is comparably deleterious. That’s where the SilencerCo Velos LBP comes in.

The Velos LBP comes with a quick-detach ASR flash hider mount from the factory.

In addition to being shockingly effective, the Velos LBP also looks cool.

Details

The SilencerCo Velos LBP incorporates more raw technology than the International Space Station. Featuring a 3D-printed core formed out of Inconel 625, the can’s high-tech, low-back pressure technology minimizes blowback while still offering world-class sound suppression. The Velos LBP’s Inconel core is fully welded, while its front and rear modules are cut out of 17-4 stainless steel. This is the most technologically advanced sound suppressor on the planet. The Velos LBP is full-auto rated and does not care how short your barrel is.

The SilencerCo Gas-Defeating Charging Handle incorporates a rubber gasket that seals the back of the rifle
and helps keep noxious gases away from the shooter.

Mechanical Details

SilencerCo has been building quality sound suppressors since 2008. Their product line reflects the current state of the art. The Velos LBP sound suppressor is the most rugged can SilencerCo has ever produced.

SilencerCo offers the Velos LBP in three variations. The standard Velos LBP 556 is optimized for 5.56mm/.223 Rem weapons. The Velos LBP 556K sports the same technology in an abbreviated package for close-quarters work. The Velos LBP 762 will run everything from 5.56 NATO up through .300 Win Mag.

The ambidextrous Gas-Defeating Charging Handle has all the bells and whistles.

The Velos LBP 556 comes from the factory with a Charlie ASR mount, an ASR flash suppressor for your rifle, an internal Charlie flash hider front cap, and all the tools you need to keep the can mounted, maintained and tidy. As it is a welded, sealed design, the can requires no more attention than simply wiping it off from time to time. The Velos LBP 556 weighs 15.2 ounces and is a paltry six inches long. The 556K is slightly smaller, while the 762 is slightly larger.

The second piece of this system is the SilencerCo Gas-Defeating Charging Handle. This patented top-end ambidextrous AR-15 charging handle includes a replaceable rubber seal that helps occlude the gap in the back of the upper receiver where gas might otherwise escape into your face. Replacing this gasket involves nothing more than snipping an appropriate O-ring into a single rubber strand and pressing it in place. The synergistic result, when operated in concert with the Velos LBP, is to keep all those vile products of combustion up front and out of your eyes, nose and lungs.

Ruminations

I’d sooner shoot than eat. If somebody told me I had to quit shooting or die a miserable death at some indeterminate point down the road, I’d at least have to sit down and think it over before making a final decision. However, I’d also sooner not spend my waning years gasping like a beached carp or hooked up to some kind of machine. It is rare that you can claim that buying a sound suppressor will help keep you healthy, but the SilencerCo Velos LBP really does check that box.

The Velos LBP sports an MSRP of $1,174. The SilencerCo Gas-Defeating Charging Handle is an additional $114. That’s a boatload of cash. However, that’s still a whole lot less than a portable oxygen concentrator and chemotherapy for lung cancer. In addition to the obvious health benefits, the Velos LBP suppresses my favorite direct gas impingement black rifles as well as any other can I have ever tried. It is also more rugged than Teddy Roosevelt’s jockstrap. If you were wondering what the most advanced rifle suppressor in the world might be, this would be it.
