Series Ready For Fall
Fall hunting seasons are just over the horizon and the weeks remaining allow time for serious hunters to put new glass on their rifles, get zeroed and start planning for the moment of the single, all-important cold-barrel shot.
Having recently hit the rifle range to check the zero on all of my rifles — an annual ritual invariably (and deliberately!) chewing up an entire morning — I’ve never taken for granted the possibility my zero may have changed. Happily, if you have a good rifle, a good reliable scope and carefully measured loads, it’s not as much a chore as it is a delight.
My past few hunts have all boiled down to depending upon precision optics. You simply cannot over-estimate the importance of a quality scope — which brings us around to the new entries from Meopta for 2019.
Back in January at the 2019 SHOT Show, Meopta announced the Optika6 line of premium riflescopes with two separate branches of the family, the Shooting series and the Hunting series. Both have features shooters will like, and by the time you read this, they should be on dealer shelves all over the country.

The Shooting series features the models built on 30mm tubes: 1-6×24, 3-18×50, 3-18×56, and 4.5-27×50. There is also a 34mm 5-30×56 model for people who really shoot far! They are available with several first-focal-plane reticle options, including the new DichroTech reticles boasting battery-free illumination in any light condition, according to Meopta.
The 34mm scope has ED glass to eliminate chromatic aberration at high magnification, and if you’ve ever seen it, you know how important it is to be rid of.
Meanwhile, the Hunting series also has several reticle options in the second focal plane, including the aforementioned DichroTech reticle. Models in this family are the 1-6×24, 2.5-15×44, 3-18×50, 3-18×56 and 4.5-27×50.
What all of these scopes have in common is the construction. They have one-piece tubes, zero-reset settings, a zoom ring featuring a multi-position throw lever and a rear-facing zoom display so the shooter knows his/her power setting at a glance. All of these scopes also feature locking turrets.
None of this should surprise people familiar with the Meopta brand. This outfit has been around for more than 85 years, producing high-end European optics.
Best of all, Optika6 scopes are affordable, too. Depending upon the specific model, the MSRP will range between $499 and $899.
